May 6th – Your Chance To Change This Country For The Better
With the General Election imminently approaching, I thought I would take this last opportunity to urge all Conversative voters, new and old to turn out on Thursday and vote.
The very latest poll shows that here in Bridgend there is a very real chance that the seat will come to the Conservatives, but only if every Conservative voter turns out and actually uses their vote. Unlike the Liberal Democrats in this campaign I have actual evidence, please visit http://www.electoralcalculus.co.uk and navigate to the Bridgend seat section. This shows that Conservatives and Labour are neck and neck, with the Lib Dems a way back in third.
This is your chance to make a difference and change this country for a fairer and freer future under David Cameron and the Conservatives, and I am thoroughly looking forward to the opportunity to represent the rights and views of each and every citizen of the Bridgend constituency if you give me the honour of representing you all in Westminster.
Please bear in mind, there is only one way to remove Gordon Brown from No. 10, and avoid a potentially damaging hung parliament and that is to vote Conservative on Thursday.
It has been a pleasure to meet so many of you during this campaign, and I hope to be meeting and representing many more of you as your Member Of Parliament.
If you require a lift to the polling station, please call the office on 01656 773060. If you have any questions that you would like answering prior to casting your vote, please call the office or email me at helen.baker@bridgendconservatives.net.
With very best regards to all of you
Helen Baker
Are The Lib-Dems and Labour Trying To Mislead Voters? You Decide
Who was the bright spark in the Bridgend Liberal Democrats who thought it would be a cunning plan to include the result of the depth of winter local council by-election in Pendre in their General Election literature to indicate actual Party support in the constituency for what is by any stretch of the imagination a far more important election coming up on 6th May?
To omit any mention of the Conservatives and Plaid is an outrageous insult to the intelligence of the Bridgend electorate, so may I remind the public of the historical facts of voting in past national and European elections and let them form a correct judgement of the true position in the Bridgend seat.
General Election Bridgend 2005
Labour 43%
Conservative 26%
LibDem 21%
Plaid 6%
Welsh Assembly Bridgend 2007
Labour 40%
Conservative 30%
LibDem 15%
Plaid 14%
European Elections Bridgend 2009
Conservative 24%
Labour 21%
Plaid 13%
LibDem 11%
These three results speak for themselves and we need no hoodwinking from the LibDems to mask the true position of Party positions locally over the past five years.
These are facts – not fairy stories – and the local public will rightly make their judgement next Thursday.
See also below a letter sent by Helen Baker to the Gazette, regarding claims about free prescriptions
I refer to Councillor Reg Jenkins’ outrageous distortion of the truth regarding free prescriptions (Gazette 22nd. April). Free prescriptions will remain for those under 25, the elderly, cancer patients and all those who were previously exempt from paying for their prescription medicine.
For him to suggest otherwise is a gross calumny.
Helen Baker’s Election Addresses
Hopefully by now most of the Bridgend Constituency should have received the below. With my fabulous group of volunteers, it has been great to meet so many of you, listen to your concerns, and hopefully convince you that the only way to get rid of Gordon Brown and Labour and make this country great again is to all work together and vote Conservative on the 6th May.
If you haven’t had the below as yet, we in the Bridgend Conservative party are working all the way up until May 6th to make sure that you get the leaflets, and I look forward to meeting you soon. If you have any comments or questions, please don’t hesitate to use the comments facility below this post, email me at helen.baker@bridgendconservatives.net or leave a message in the campaign office on 01656 773060.

Effect On Ambulance Response Times Because Front-line Ambulances Are Tied
A call for an increase in bed numbers at the Princess of Wales Hospital has been made by Conservative Candidate Helen Baker.
Research by the Welsh Conservatives has revealed that since 1986, the Bridgend area has lost 200 beds, due to the closure of small hospitals like Cefn Hirgoed, Blackmill and Llynfi, “There was a view in the 80′s that we would not need so many beds because of increasing levels of day surgery and quicker turn round times with operations”, she said.
“But what the health planners failed to take into account is the fact that we have a rising number of older people who need higher levels of hospital in-treatment. This coupled with the massive increase in housing development in the Bridgend area is what has thrown the bed numbers out of kilter with actual demand.”
Mrs. Baker said that once again, during the recent bad weather when demand for hospital treatment soared, the Princess of Wales Hospital had been put under intolerable pressure.
“I know that in Bridgend we have extremely dedicated doctors, nurses and administrators but the truth is you cannot get a quart into a pint pot, no matter how hard you try. There are simply not enough beds within the system, not just in Bridgend, but in Wales and the UK as a whole. The Welsh Assembly Government has admitted that bed numbers have dropped by 12 per cent since 1999.This ruthless bed
chopping has not only to stop but mut be reversed.
There is also a knock on effect on ambulance reponse times because front-line ambulances are tied up outside hospitals unable to discharge patients.”

Are You Thinking What Helen Baker Is Thinking?
| If you are thinking the same as I am thinking then I would ask you to support me at the General Election.
We must support families and marriage as the basis of a strong society. Instead of penalising them, offer the help they may need. We must encourage our children to reach their potential and not just reach targets. We must make the benefits system a safety net and not a career option. We must reduce red tape and bureaucracy so that enterprise and business can flourish. Let schools get on with teaching and let hospitals get on with caring and healing. |

We must consign political correctness to the rubbish bin and not the refuse receptacle. We must restore and preserve our faith in institutions that protect our freedoms. We must free our police force from paperwork so that they can do their job of keeping people safe in their homes and on the streets. And most of all we must show that we care for people as individuals regardless of their background. David Cameron has called for change, I believe in change, we are all in this together, and together we can change things. |

A Message From Our Association Chairman
At this exciting and challenging time for the Conservative Party it is a great pleasure to welcome you to our new look website which will be regularly updated with both Constituency, Welsh and United Kingdom news.
Having fought our way back from the unhappy times of the late 1990′s we are now in a strong position to form the next UK Government but we need the support and dedication of Party activists and those who believe that a change is necessary after 12 years of discredited Westminster Administration.
In our candidate Helen Baker we have someone who will fight the corner of the Bridgend area and be a asset to us in Parliament. I would urge you to give her all the support you can in the months leading up to the General Election.
The Officers of the Association would be delighted to hear from you about any concerns or suggestions you may have and together we can make sure that Bridgend and Britain are better under Conservatives.
Chris Smart (Cllr.)
Chairman – Bridgend Conservative Association
